TP-Link Tapo RTSP URL and live streaming

Put TP-Link Tapo Wi-Fi cameras live on your website: the RTSP link to use, the settings that matter, and how to share it with StreamLink.

StreamPath after the address
Main stream (best quality)/stream1
Sub-stream (lighter)/stream2

The full link looks like this (replace the user, password and address with yours):

rtsp://tapouser:Str0ngPass@192.168.1.50:554/stream1

Each Tapo camera has its own address; there are no channels.

Passwords with @ : / # ? must be written as %40 %3A %2F %23 %3F, or use a password with only letters and numbers. Test the link in VLC before adding it.

Camera settings

Tapo cameras stream H.264, which plays in every browser.

  • The user name and password are not your TP-Link account: in the Tapo app open the camera → Settings → Advanced Settings → Camera Account and create them there.
  • Battery-powered Tapo models generally don't offer RTSP.
  • Home Wi-Fi connections often can't be reached from outside: push mode (a PC or Raspberry Pi at home) avoids router changes.

Stream your TP-Link Tapo camera to a website

  1. Create a StreamLink account and click Add camera (or Add several for a whole NVR).
  2. Paste the RTSP link and press Test. StreamLink shows the video format it finds.
  3. No public IP or port forwarding? Choose push and run the ready-made command on a PC or Raspberry Pi next to the camera. See push mode.
  4. Optionally add a viewer password, working hours or copy protection.
  5. Copy the live link, or paste the embed code into your website (WordPress, Wix, Google Sites…).

Viewers watch in any browser, on phones and computers, usually less than a second behind real time.
